Many years ago, there lived an old man and woman on a small farm. The two had known each other since they were young, had married, and lived together for many years. It did not matter to either that they lived in poverty, owned very little, or were old and wrinkled, as long as they had each other. When the old couple went into town, onlookers would gaze at them and see only the love and patience the two had for each other. Everything was seemingly perfect.

Death Whispered A Lullaby
Moonglow spilled onto your face last night
Rise, fall, rise, fall, a smooth rhythm
Peace, relaxation, contentment
Creeping inward, you were surrounded
Vigilant protectors of cotton and fluff
My hand grazed your cheek, a cold stroke on a field ablaze
Whimpering, you spoke to me in words not yet formed
Don’t be afraid
Go to your dreams
Forget it all
Chill slinked its way through
The smooth rhythms became smoother and smoother, softer and softer
And with that, we both left the room
Inspired by Opeth’s “Death Whispered a Lullaby”
The One I Lost
As the black procession walks around the gate
Upon my mind there is a stain
The wilted petals of a long-forgotten day
Never to find the one I lost again
The pen must have slipped to the side
An accident, a mistake, who is to blame?
It cannot be real, this nightmarish reality
The one I lost, I can never reclaim
They say anguish makes for good art
That from beauty, the pain is torn
Even as I worked day and night, looking to find meaning
The memory of the one I lost I caused me to mourn
And now, many a-year has passed
Every now and then, a thought will cross my mind
I will remember that long-forgotten time
But memories of the one I lost, I cannot find
On the Precipice
She stood at the edge of the abyss
Her dress fluttering in the breeze
Grass to charred earth to void
Hellions twisted and encircled
She watched as they begged in ecstasy
Gnarled claws grasped towards the city
On the very edge of the crater
The metropolis fell
Artifice crashing against nature
Screaming, tumbling, descending
He stared across the maw
Dressed in a cloak of shadows
He smirked in disgust
They both knew
They were on the precipice of something greater
